Magnetic Island

Before coming to Magnetic Island I was beginning to burn out.  Not just on traveling around, and not necessarily on life thats way too dramatic, but something in between.  I had been feeling tired almost non-stop for the last few weeks.  Now after coming to this island I have been rejuvenated!  It has been the best two days ever.

We arrived on a ferry from Townsville on Friday and settled into our hotel.  The couple running the hotel (they are actually "partners" who are about 23) are so awesome!  They have been traveling around the world for the last few years together stopping in any random place to work for a while when they need money to continue.  They have had a multitude of odd jobs anywhere from working at ski resorts to operating whale watching tours.  Now they are settled on Magnetic Island for a year while managing the Arcadia Beach Hotel.  Anyways moving on, that first afternoon/evening we walked down the beach and stopped in to say hi to the wallabies that live at George Bay.  After our walk we hung out around the room for a little while until dinner.

Yesterday we wanted to get a feel for the island so we hopped on a bus to Horseshoe Bay which has a strip of shops and cafes.  It takes less than 5 minutes to walk across the whole strip and so after doing so a couple of times we sat on the beach for a little while.

It was fun to watch all of the people renting jet skis and hiring boats to take them tubing.  We stayed in Horseshoe Bay for a few hours and then, being the ambitious people we are, decided to walk back across half the island to our hotel.  It was quite a trek.  The whole hike took us an hour and a half which isn't too bad, but it was mostly uphill which was a bit of a challenge.  I still absolutely love the weather here!  I know I won't be saying the same thing in December, but for now I love how I can wear shorts and a tank top all day and be completely fine even in the rain.

Today (Sunday) for me was a highlight of the whole trip.  It was so fun!  After getting a quick workout in we headed down to the Road Runner rentals to rent some mopeds.  Best. Idea. Ever.  We each got our moped, my moms was pink and its name was Courtney and mine was light blue and its name was Seamus, and we took off across the island.  Oh my goodness they were a blast!

The great part is that quite a lot of people rent these mopeds and so when you pass each other it's like you have an immediate camaraderie.  It's funny because you can hear all of the mopeders beeping as they pass each other.  Anyways we scooted our way down to Horseshoe Bay and stopped in at the marked that was going on which was small but nice.  It started to rain while we were walking around so we stopped in at a cafe for tea.  By the time we finished the rain had stopped so we hopped onto our scooters and headed to Radical Bay where we went on a hike to a lookout where you had a wonderful birds eye view of two bays on the island.

When we reached the lookout there was another guy already up there who we struck up a conversation.  His name was Christoph, he told us how he was from Germany and hated his job (he was an engineer for Mercedes) so he quit and will now be traveling Australia by himself for the next year or so.  For the rest of the day we just wandered around taking in the sights.

Dinner was pizza night!  We sat with a couple from Germany who were super awesome and we ended up talking to for over 3 hours.  They live just outside of Munich and I believe they are professors at the University in the city.

Prayer requests!  First would be for a deepened bond with the Lord, especially as I will be going into the strenuous environment at YWAM and will need all of the strength I can get!  Also for energy.  As I mentioned before for the last few months I have been having bouts of being overly tired which can last up to a couple of weeks which is no fun!

Thank you all so much for your love and support!
Love,
Selah
